Route 8's giant must have potential

To the editor:

There is a diamond in the rough in Adams, with the emphasis on rough. I am referring to the "blue seal" grain elevator on Route 8 slightly north of downtown. It is a rare sight in the East, and most in the Midwest are constructed of metal.

At least 70 feet high, it has broken windows and unpainted wood but it appears to be a sound, well-built structure. It exudes craftsmanship from an era when workers had pride in their work.

Writing this makes me think I should drive over there and learn more. I think restoration of this diamond should be considered.
