Together, we should welcome change
To the editor:
Why are we afraid of change? I was born and raised here in North Adams. During the past several years, I have noticed that we all fear, question and wonder if we can handle change. We all struggle with questions of whether change will benefit us or hurt us. However, if do not try to make things better and safer, our children will suffer.
In a national speech, President Obama stated that we have to make sure that we protect and teach our children how to come together and learn to speak up about their thoughts, fears and opinions. We must all speak up about how we can make this world better and safer.
All of us have to overcome obstacles in our lives, big and small. We all have to have the ability to make a change. There is too much distrust, abuse (physical, emotional and sexual) violence and fear is general. This is happening not only in the Berkshires but worldwide, including through terrorism. We rely on law enforcement and government to protect us and they do what they can with the tools they have, but we need to speak up and pay more attention to what is going on around us and help them.
The world we live in is not the same as it used to be. It is up to us to try to change whatever we have the capability to change. We are all in this together. I believe that it can be a "mission possible." It is time to make a change.
