Dick Houdek brought style, arts knowledge
To the editor:
He has been gone for eight weeks, and boy do we miss our friend, Dick Houdek. After a year-long battle with cancer, he succumbed on Dec. 24, 2015, and left a void in the life of his wife Peggy, numerous friends, hundreds of acquaintances, and this writer.
Dick brought style right out of the West Coast, particularly Los Angeles, which he never lost. His knowledge of movies and all of the arts put him at the top of the spectrum. He stood alone.
Personally, he did the publicity for the shows I produced here in Berkshire County. I was enthralled by his reviews of the show business giants when he was sent out by the Los Angeles Times, for whom he toiled. His reviews of local performances were so well-written, created with the knowledge of a master. We were fortunate he lived among us and all of us are the richer as a result of Dick's presence.
Thank you my dear and old friend. I'll miss our Army stories and the characters contained therein. Along with you, they were treasures.
