Election irrelevant in dark times for US

To the editor:

Certainly many people admire Bernie Sanders and many of his ideas for a good government responsive to its citizens. So let's suppose he's the Democratic nominee.

He can't win. He's too far to the left. The election, I think, would give us a Republican Congress and president. What a nightmare!

Hillary has a chance. Then, at worst, a probable stalemate like President Obama's tour. That's why I have to go with Hillary much as I like Bernie.

But it's all irrelevant: the country is racked with schisms. The future is black, black, black. Let's face it: we are witnessing the irreversible decline of Rome. How sad.
