Re-elect John and John to Dalton Select Board

To the editor:

Dalton voters face an important decision at the town election on Monday. There are four candidates running for two open seats on the Select Board. The two incumbents, John Boyle and John Bartels, are by far the two most qualified candidates. When anyone asks me who I am supporting, I say, without hesitation, John and John.

John Boyle is the senior member of the Select Board. He has spent the past nine years serving the town of Dalton with passion and integrity, not to mention his previous long service on the board. No one knows more about how the town of Dalton works and how to get things done. From his relationship with small-business owners, to his knowledge of the municipal construction process, to his background in the restaurant and bar business, Boyle is the go-to man for procedures. His insight and support is invaluable to me and the town.

If no one knows more about the town of Dalton than John Boyle, no one works harder for our town than John Bartels. Having served on our police force, the last 6 1/2 years of his tenure as chief, John went onto the Select Board with a distinct advantage.

However, he did not rest on his laurels, immersing himself in the other areas of town government. He has served on the finance committee, cemetery trustees, and the seven-town advisory committee for the CBRSD, acting as the municipal representative during negotiations with the schools' unions.

As chairperson, Bartels has set a new standard having instituted office hours where he is available to townspeople on an appointment or drop-in basis.

I feel honored to serve on this board with both Boyle and Bartels. I believe that our board would suffer in their absence. Their devotion to Dalton is unparalleled. Please vote in the town election on Monday, May 9, for John and John!
