It takes an entire community
To The editor:
It takes an entire community to put on a successful used book sale — and what a community we have in Stockbridge!
Working shoulder to shoulder with Stockbridge Library Association board members, a team of more than 100 hard-working volunteers made our July 9-11 used book sale a success. My thanks to each of you, and to all the local organizations supplying workers who hauled boxes of more than 16,000 books, CDs, and DVDs from our Housatonic warehouse and carefully arranged each box by category, so browsers could find just what they were looking for.
Those organizations are Chesterwood, The Trustees of Reservations (Naumkeag), Marian Fathers, the Norman Rockwell Museum, and the Berkshire Botanical Garden. Also, my thanks to Berkshire Bank for providing workers who made this event run smoothly.
Of course, we couldn't have done it without all of you who bought items at our used book sale this year. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
Even though this used book sale is vital to raise money for our operating expenses each year, the amount raised is just a small fraction of what is required. It is only because of the town's annual contribution, voted on at each year's annual town meeting, that we can continue to function.
So, it takes an entire community not only to put on a successful used book sale — it takes an entire community to maintain this vital resource for everyone to enjoy.
