Triumphant return of Berkshire Opera

To the editor:

Run, don't walk, to get tickets to Berkshire Opera's "Madama Butterfly" at the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield on Tuesday [tonight] or Friday night at 7:30!

We were privileged to attend on Saturday evening (August 27), the rebirth of Berkshire Opera with its inaugural, fully staged presentation of Puccini's most gripping and poignant opera, and it was one of those highlights of the summer season that many of us find so memorable, so wonderfully Berkshires, so elevating.

Not only were the featured vocalists simply superb and beautifully cast, the entire production was a sight to behold — artful, handsome, so perfectly suited to the Colonial stage and its elegant hall. Add a complement of orchestral music that soared with the story as this production unwound in all its beauty and poignancy, and you have opera that truly stirs the soul.

It was a truly Berkshires night as friends and family of the general director, Jonathon Loy, and the artistic director, Brian Garman, plus Berkshire Opera's many supporters who have for so many years awaited this day, gleamed in pride and as they saw this adventurous and challenging undertaking unfold before them with such magnificence and understated elegance.

You may have had a summer of great moments, but I urge you to give yourself the gift of just one more!

Welcome back, Berkshire Opera.
