Building walls only shuts off potential
To the editor:
The year is 2015, the site is Mexico City. Major League Baseball has for the first time expanded from the U.S. and Canada to Mexico.
I am obviously making a prediction, not revealing a fact, but it relates to our presidential election. One of the most significant issues in the campaign is immigration, and the view of one of the candidates is that the U.S. should build a wall along the Mexican border. President Obama gave a speech recently before the United Nations in which he proclaimed "A nation ringed by walls would only imprison itself."
I am making this prediction about expansion of Major League baseball into Mexico as an example of the type of positive potential that can be created between our countries. Why create barriers to unity when there exists such positive potential?
