BOSTON (AP) -- Federal agents have arrested a Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles employee they say scammed illegal immigrants out of money by promising to sell them driver's licenses.
Adriana Ferreira was arrested Friday morning, and is scheduled for an arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court later in the day.
Authorities allege that after the Boston resident took the money, she would fail to deliver any documents and would report them to immigration officials.
The naturalized U.S. citizen from Brazil faces a 27-count indictment on charges including corruption, bribery and larceny.
Authorities claim Ferreira charged victims $2,000 for a license, and falsely told them she had a contact in the federal government who could delay a deportation for a fee.
They say Ferreira did not know any immigration officials.
