DALTON -- A clerk at the Shamrock Village Inn was sent to the hospital after she was pistol whipped by an armed man who demanded cash Saturday night.

Dalton Police issued a county-wide alert to be on the look out for Sean W. Gelinas, a 25-year-old homeless man and native of Dalton.

According to Dalton Police Sgt. Richard Nicholas, Gelinas may be armed with a semi-automatic pistol and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Gelinas should not approach him and immediately call 9-1-1 or the Dalton Police at (413) 684-0300.

At 6:08 p.m. Saturday, Gelinas allegedly entered the office of the inn at 633 Main Street and demanded cash from the clerk. When informed she does not have access to the safe, he allegedly struck her with his gun and left the scene, heading west on foot.

The victim apparently knew the assailant, Nicholas noted.

Gelinas, at 5 foot 8 inches and 165 pounds, was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a brown shirt and blue jeans. He was also wearing black gloves.
