Author William Staats will give a talk, "Three Centuries on the Hudson River," at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road.
Staats will tell the story of Hoogebergh, the Dutch fieldstone homestead in Castleton-on-Hudson in which 11 generations of the Staats family have lived.
In addition to the history of the 1696 house, Staats has stories of the Staats family’s relationship to the Patroon System, the family ice house business, the Hudson River Day Line, and the Hudson River itself.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
