The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Berkshire County is offering a free six-week education program, open to caregivers of children and adolescents with mental illnesses, on Tuesday mornings, beginning Sept. 18, in North Adams.
The NAMI Basics course is taught by trained teachers who are the parent or other caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of 13. The course consists of six classes, each lasting for two hours.
Participants will learn problem solving, listening and communication skills, as well as how to effectively advocate for their child in their interactions with the school and healthcare systems.
To register or for more information, call the program facilitator at (413) 346-7036 or e-mail email@example.com.
This program is sponsored by NAMI Berkshire County, Berkshire Children & Families, The Brien Center for Mental Health & Substance abuse Services and hosted by The Family Place.
