The Northern Berkshire Community Coalition is coordinating the prescription drug collection at four sites in northern Berkshire County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Collections will be held at the Adams Police Department, 4 School St.; Berkshire Mall Food Court in Lanesborough; Spitzer Center, 116 Ashland St., North Adams; and the Williamstown Transfer Station.
The collection includes sharps, needles, prescription and non-prescription drugs, pet medications, vitamins, homeopathic remedies, patches, and liquid medication in leak-proof containers. Bring sharps and needles in puncture-free containers.
Teenagers report prescription pain relievers are easy to get from the medicine cabinet at home. Massachusetts is ranked 16th in misuse of pain relievers by youth 12 years old and older. The water supply is also affected by the disposal of medications.
In addition, medications can be brought any time to the 24/7 lock boxes located at the North Adams, Adams and Williamstown police stations.
