Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First St., introduces a weekly evening of contemplative jazz and prayer, beginning Thursday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m.
The Theodicy Jazz Collective, a six-piece sacred jazz ensemble, will lead the vespers on Oct. 25. The service will continue each Thursday at 6 p.m.
Vespers is a sunset evening prayer service, often involving candles and silence. All are welcome.
Theodicy Jazz Collective is inspired by jazz, blues, gospel, traditional hymns, and world music. Its members are Andrew Barnett, piano; David Chevan, bass; Will Cleary, saxophone; Charlie Dye, drums; Ann Phelps, vocals; and Sarah Politz, trombone.
Barnett is worship developer at Zion Lutheran Church, and music director and environmental science teacher at Darrow School in New Lebanon, N.Y.
