The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires will present the program, "Melville, Haunted," with director and playwright Sally Filkins, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at Congregation Knesset Israel, 16 Colt Road.
The program is open to the public at a cost of $3.
Filkins, the artistic director of "Voices," the resident theater company at Herman Melville's "Arrowhead," is the author of "The Melville Trilogy," three original plays about Melville.
Based on the life and works of Melville, the trilogy explores the torturously entangled relationships among Melville's family of women, his circle of intimates, including Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the characters in his books.
Discussing the trilogy, Filkins will include excerpts from the three plays as well as explore Melville's social views.
Filkins' presentation will also examine the poem "Clarel," the longest poem in American literature, written by Melville after a visit to The Holy Land.
