North Adams Regional Hospital has temporarily restricted its visitors policy during the current outbreak of influenza.
Until further notice, the hospital asks that children younger than 14 not visit the hospital (including the Birthing Center), and that the number of visitors be restricted to two at a time for a patient. Anyone with flu or flu-like symptoms is also asked to refrain from visiting.
"We’re taking all appropriate steps to try to contain the spread of the flu," NARH Infection Preventionist Michael Raczynski, R.N., said in the news release announcing the restrictions "These changes to our visitors policy, while temporary, will help keep our patients, employees, and visitors healthy."
Raczynski also encouraged all visitors to take advantage of handwash stations, located at the main and Emergency Department entrances to the hospital. The stations include waterless hand cleaner, masks and tissues.
"The single most effective way to halt the flu is with good hand hygiene," said Raczynski.
