Berkshire Area Health Education Center has rehired Bear McHugh to coordinate the Youth Suicide Prevention Project. The project is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Suicide Prevention Program.
The funding allows Berkshire AHEC to continue work begun under a previous grant to reduce the rate of suicide among young people ages 10 to 24 in Berkshire County. The project is designed to support communities disproportionately affected by suicide and nonfatal self-inflicted injury in developing more effective prevention, early intervention and response systems.
McHugh received his master of social work degree from the State University of New York and is a licensed independent clinical social worker. Before joining Berkshire AHEC, McHugh worked for 20 years in addiction and mental health services. He also founded and operated Diversity Matters Corporation to provide cultural competency trainings.
The services of the YSPP are available at no charge. For more information, contact McHugh at firstname.lastname@example.org or (413) 447-2417.
