Jim Overmyer of Lenox, nationally known baseball historian, will discuss the early history of black baseball and sign copies of his book, "Effa Manley and the Newark Eagles," at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the Du Bois Center, 684 South Main St.
In addition to a multi-media presentation, Overmyer will display some artifacts from his collection of Negro Leagues baseball memorabilia.
A member of the Society for American Baseball Research, Overmyer has written extensively about baseball history and has appeared as a featured speaker at The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., and other venues.
Derek Gentile, a local author, columnist and reporter for The Berkshire Eagle will introduce Overmyer. Gentile will be available to sign copies of his latest book, "The Top 1,000 Baseball Players of All Time."
