The Boys & Girls Club of Pittsfield announced the selection of Lauren McMahon as the 2013 Youth of the Year at the club’s annual meeting on June 12.
The Youth of the Year award is given to the club member who best demonstrates attributes the club strives to develop in its members. Along with the title, McMahon receives the Alumni’s James Eulian Memorial Scholarship and the Timothy Shepard Memorial Scholarship.
McMahon is the daughter of Paul and Lynda McMahon and graduated from Pittsfield High School where she was a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, Class Council and Prom Committee.
At the Boys & Girls Club, McMahon has been a member of the Senior Leaders program, this year being co-president. She helped put on the club’s Thanksgiving dinners, Halloween trick-or-treats and girls’ and boys’ night sleepovers.
McMahon will study elementary education at Westfield State University this fall.
Other scholarships awarded at the annual meeting include the Fred S. Fahey Scholarship to Connor Murphy; James J. Mooney Scholarship to Molly Barbarotta; L. Wayne Montagna Scholarship to Jacqueline Martin; Pam Rotti/Marilyn Skowron Staff Scholarship to Ashley Strack and Tyler Trepania; and the Nick and Ruth Boraski Scholarships to Jordan Barbarotta, Kristin Hill, Megan Hill, Ashley McLaughlin, and Lavante Wiggins.
Kristy Conyers and Mike Newton were honored as volunteers.
