The Stockbridge Library’s Museum Archives will present its monthly tour of the Stockbridge Cemetery at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. This month’s theme is "Smart from the Start: 275 Years of Education in Stockbridge"
Stockbridge’s first colonial settlers came when John Sergeant established an Indian mission school in 1739. The small town has been home to a surprisingly large number of schools and teachers since that time. The tour will explore who made the learning happen, and what was being taught, to whom.
The tour gathers at the cemetery gate on Main Street, Route 102. Parking is available at the old Town Hall, across from the gate. A donation of $5 is suggested.
This is the fifth of six monthly tours of the Stockbridge Cemetery offered from May through October. Each tour has a different theme.
