Boy Scout Troop 38 held a Fellowship Dinner and Court of Honor on Thursday, Aug. 15, at Camp Holy Cross in Goshen. Scoutmaster Donald Girard and Troop Advisor Elaine Burdick recognized three members of the Troop who advanced to the highest rank.
Nicole Sebastino and Erynn Gleason both received the Scout Adventuring Silver Award. Dyllan McLear received the Boy Scout Eagle Award.
All three had worked for years on various ranks to achieve these highest honors. Since its beginning, Troop 38 has welcomed over 70 Eagle Scouts to its roster. Last year’s honorees included Ryan Alvarez, Timothy Jones, Mike Pedercini, and Nicholas Bergeron of Troop 38, and Lone Eagle Scout, Joshua Henderson.
The following ranks were presented to the named Troop members:
Second Class: Nathan Mahar, Alex Pinckney and Cody Powers; First Class: Dana Burdick, Devon Marzalek and Alex Pinckney; Tenderfoot: Ryan Bednarz, Evan Canales and Owen Canales.
Merit Badges are required in order to advance in rank. These were presented as follows: E. Canales -- Personal Fitness, Swimming and Lifesaving; O. Canales -- Swimming, Lifesaving; D. Burdick -- Swimming, Pets, Personal Fitness; D. Durant -- Hiking, Rifle Shooting; S. Holland -- Cooking; N. Mahar -- Game Design; Devon Marzalek -- Swimming; M. McLear -- Personal Fitness; A. Pinckney -- Personal Fitness, Game Design, Lifesaving, Pets, Swimming, and Cooking; C. Powers -- Swimming; Travis Ritcher -- Cooking; A. Will -- Cooking; K. Will -- Family Life, Pets, Camping, Personal Fitness, and Cooking.
During the week, Scouts participated in badge work, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, stew and pie cooking, rifle shooting, arts/crafts, woodwork, metal-work, and team building games, etc. After the close of ceremonies, Scouts enjoyed the last evening campfire of the week.
