The Alzheimer’s Association 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, Farnams Causeway.
The Walk is supported by the Berkshire Alzheimer’s Partnership, which works in concert with the Alzheimer’s Association, to promote education, outreach and fundraising for Berkshire County.
The Walk follows the easily accessible rail trail along scenic Cheshire Lake. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with coffee, fruit and bagels available. A brief ceremony at 9:30 a.m. will precede the start of the Walk.
Ribbon cutting for the kick-off is at 10 a.m. sharp. Participants may walk as much or as little as they choose. Refreshments, entertainment, and information will be available throughout the morning.
Additional parking with frequent shuttle service will be available at the Berkshire Mall lot on Route 8, between the Sears end of the Mall and the Farmers Market.
Honorary chairs are WBRK’s Cheryl Tripp Cleveland and WUPE’s Larry Kratka.
Doing double duty on the day of the Walk, Cleveland will also host a live broadcast from the Walk site while Kratka spins tunes for the crowd.
Morning highlights include balloon magic with Bowey the Clown and a yoga warm-up by the lake. There will be an artist-led pumpkin decorating station and face painting for the children. A post-Walk lunch will feature pizza by Papa Joe’s and a barbecue by Hillcrest Commons.
Dr. Cynthia A. Murphy, executive director of the Memory Clinic in Bennington, Vt., returns as clinical chair for the Berkshire Walk. Berkshire Healthcare and the Memory Clinic will be among the many exhibitors on hand to answer questions and provide information on available resources.
