Berkshire Community Action Council is accepting applications for its "Holiday Warm Clothing Program" until Nov. 8.
Applications are accepted at the BCAC offices at 1531 East St. from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The program provides warm clothing for local children from low-income families in Central Berkshire County. The 33-year-old signature program of the agency is run by Janie McCormick, director of Community Programs at BCAC, and Patty Brown-Charland, a community volunteer and business woman.
Most of the eligible households are receiving fuel assistance, or are participating in other services offered by BCAC or other social service agencies. Children must be 12 or under to be eligible.
Proper identification, proof of income and Berkshire County residency are required.
BCAC works closely with the Christian Center, the Salvation Army, The Santa Toy Fund and other local agencies to ensure that no local, low-income families in need are overlooked. Together these agencies monitor applications, and direct families to the agency whose holiday program would best suit their needs.
BCAC is soliciting individuals and community groups to volunteer with the Giving Tree at the Berkshire Mall and to assist with the organization and distribution of gifts. Volunteers assist individuals in selecting children to sponsor.
Persons interested in volunteering, donating gifts or cash, or sponsoring a child may contact Brown-Charland at (413) 212-1277 or McCormick at (413) 418-3658.
Northern Berkshire County applicants, donors, sponsors and volunteers may contact Aleta Moncecchi or Rose Moore at (413) 663-3014.
South County residents may contact Allison Rada at CHP in Great Barrington at (413) 644-0104, ext. 1159, for information on the Watson Fund.
