A World Food Day rally will take place from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Park Square. In the event of rain, the rally will move to the Berkshire Athenaeum auditorium.
World Food Day rallies will be held in approximately 400 major cities around the world.
This March Against Monsanto event is locally sponsored by Mass. Right to Know about GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and Berkshire Organics. Berkshire Organics will have a food booth at the rally.
Beginning at 1 p.m., five speakers will address different aspects of the GMO issue. A question and answer period will follow.
Speakers include Dr. Mark Pettus, director of Medical Education, Wellness and Population Health at Berkshire Medical Center; Jack Kittredge, Northeast Organic Farming Association/Mass. policy director; state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier; Martin Dagoberto, Hilltowns Non-GMO working group; and Dan Hegerich, health educator and cancer survivor.
Music will be provided by Jack Swindlehurst.
Free parking is available in the McKay Street parking garage. Bring a sign, a lawn chair and questions.
