Lenox Historical Society is hosting a lecture and book signing with Guy C. Fraker, author of "Lincoln’s Ladder to the Presidency: The Eighth Judicial Circuit." The program will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in the Welles Gallery at Lenox Library.
Fraker, an attorney in Bloomington, Ill., is the current chairman of the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition, a branch of the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage area in downstate Illinois. He has lectured and written extensively on the eighth judicial circuit.
Fraker’s talk will detail Lincoln’s personal and political relationship with Illinois Judge David Davis who presided over the court of the Eighth Judicial Circuit from 1848-1862 and was Lincoln’s campaign manager during the 1860 presidential campaign. Davis was married to Sarah Woodruff Walker (1814-1879), Lenox native and daughter of Probate Judge William P. Walker.
The program will last approximately one hour with refreshments to follow. It is free and open to the public. For more information or to RSVP, call Vickie at (413) 441-7902.
