The Austerlitz Historical Society will welcome the community to a 19th century celebration at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the 1850s church on Route 22.

The Society’s 21st annual Holiday Sing will emphasize traditional hymns, carols and other songs that have been sung in the church for more than a century.

Pat O’Shea will provide piano accompaniment while John Peterson serves as master of ceremonies. A string trio from the Chatham School Orchestra will provide a seasonal medley.

The program will also include readings of texts written and/or popular in the 19th century. Holiday refreshments and the awarding of door prizes will follow the program.

The eight other non-profit groups in Austerlitz and Spencertown are joining the Austerlitz Historical Society in sponsoring a series of community events known collectively as "Deck the Halls" from Dec. 6 to 8.

The programs will begin Friday, Dec. 6 with caroling and tree lighting in Spencertown and end with the Holiday Sing on Sunday, Dec. 8.

All events are free and open to the public. Information: (518) 392-0062 or www.oldausterlitz.org or www.spencertownausterlitz.org.
