Kenneth Andersen Black, a member of Boy Scout Troop 1, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting.

The son of Valerie Andersen and David Black of Pittsfield, Black graduated from Pittsfield High School in June. He was a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar with Honor, and recipient of a Letter of Recommendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program.

He was co-captain of the varsity swim team and named Berkshire County’s most valuable swimmer. He was awarded the Service Above Self Award from the Rotary Club of Pittsfield and was an acolyte and youth leader at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Black is a student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Commonwealth Honors College in the School of Engineering. He plans to become a civil engineer.

He entered scouting as a Tiger Cub in first grade and has held many positions within Troop 1 including assistant patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He also earned the Order of the Arrow and backpacked at Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico this past summer.

His Eagle Scout project consisted of directing 18 volunteers to clean and organize the industrial kitchen at St. Stephen’s Church that feeds the hungry three days a week. They also served meals to hungry guests.
