The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Berkshire County invites its members and the community to participate in its annual holiday collection and distribution of gift bags to the patients in the hospital psychiatric wards at Berkshire Medical Center and North Adams Regional Hospital.
NAMIBC will be collecting warm winter hats, gloves, and socks along with travel size toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpaste and nail care items.
Also requested are pocket planners, small games, puzzles, word searches, and playing cards, note paper, journals, pens, and pencils.
Other gift bag items that are greatly appreciated by patients are gum, candy and other snacks. Donations of movies, books and puzzles are sought for the wards, as well.
Those interested in volunteering to pack these gift bags or to transport everything to the hospitals, may call the NAMIBC office at (413) 443-1666.
Monetary donations are welcome and checks can be made payable to NAMIBC.
Donations can be dropped off at the NAMIBC office at the State Building, fourth floor, 133 East St., across from Pittsfield High School, during regular hours, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All items are needed no later than Monday, Dec. 23, to allow time to pack and distribute the gift bags.
