The history of trolley service in North Berkshire will be tracked in a free public lecture at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the David & Joyce Milne Public Library.
The illustrated talk by John M. Hyde, professor emeritus of history at Williams College, will feature an overview of trolley cars as a means of public transportation in the United States.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the emergence, dominance and ultimate disappearance of trolleys from Williamstown and Berkshire County.
A former dean of students at Williams, Hyde was a member of the college’s faculty for 50 years.
His lecture is sponsored by the Williamstown Historical Museum, which Hyde serves as a member of the board.
