The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires is sponsoring two programs by noted journalist and bibliophile Hugh Black at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, and Monday, Feb. 3, at Congregation Knesset Israel, 16 Colt Road.

Black will focus on the 1967 novel "The Chosen," its author Chaim Potok, and the work’s 1981 film adaptation which starred Maximilian Schell, Rod Steiger and Robby Benson.

On Jan. 30, Black will introduce a screening of the film.

On Feb. 3, Black will offer a biographical look at Polish immigrant Potak, who was raised in a strict Orthodox Jewish family, and how his upbringing informed and influenced "The Chosen."

The programs are open to the public at a cost of $3.
