The second talk in this year’s Faculty Lecture series at Williams College will be presented by Jeannie Albrecht, associate professor of computer science, on Thursday, Feb. 20.
Albrecht’s lecture, titled "Detecting and Predicting Occupancy in a Smart Home," will take place at 4:15 p.m. in Wege Auditorium, Thompson Chemistry.
A reception will follow in Schow Atrium. The event is free and open to the public.
Albrecht’s talk will summarize a project called Smart, which aims to optimize energy consumption in homes.
Albrecht and her research team designed and installed a system that continuously gathers environmental and operational data in three homes, including Albrecht’s.
In her lecture, Albrecht will describe the sensing infrastructure and summarize some of the latest results on occupancy detection and prediction using the data gathered.
The Faculty Lecture Series will continue on Feb. 27 with Professor of Spanish Gene Bell-Villada and his lecture "Growing up Internationally, and How it Shapes a Child."
