The deadline to apply for the 19th annual Uel Wade Music Scholarship competition is April 15. This deadline refers to the written application, after which a preliminary audition will be scheduled. Details may be found on

The competition is open to any teenage high-school musician (instrumentalist or singer) who resides in Columbia, Greene, or Rensselaer County in New York, or Berkshire County in Massachusetts. The written application requires a short analysis of one of the works to be performed.

The funds are designated specifically for furthering the musical education of the recipients and are paid directly to the conservatory, music camp, college, or private music teacher where or with whom the applicant wishes to study.

This year, the money available for scholarship awards is once again approaching $10,000. It is seeded by Wade and Marion Hunter with $1,000 and augmented by local businesses and individuals.

To win some of that money, the finalists will perform before a live audience at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Spencertown Academy. Admission to the concert is $10, all of which goes into the Scholarship fund.
