ADAMS -- Prior to leaving for a two-year overseas assignment in Bavaria, Pfc. Richard W. Bieniek of the U.S. Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Walter Bieniek of 65 Park St., is spending a 10-day leave at his home here. He is accompanied by his wife, the former Catherine Voghel of Adams and their infant daughter, Kimberly Jean.
A 1963 graduate of Adams Memorial High school, he enlisted last June 28 under the Army's high school graduate specialist program and had basic training at Ft. Dix.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Miss Bessie Wright, retired librarian of the White Oaks branch library, was presented a gift in recognition of her years of service in a brief ceremony at her home Monday afternoon.
Chairman William J. Cartwright of the Library board of Trustees made the presentation in which he paid tribute to Miss Wright for interesting so many children in reading during her 20 years of service at the branch. 25 years ago today
NORTH ADAMS -- Amal Caleb Mahar of North Adams has earned honors for the fall semester at Skidmore College, a coeducational, liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 2,100 students.
Highest honors are awarded for a grade point ratio of 3.67 or more from a possible 4.0. Honors are awarded for a grade point ratio of 3.3 to 3.6.
CHESHIRE -- The 75 members of the Cheshire Senior Citizens Club who met March 29 at the Cheshire Senior Citizens Community Center, welcomed Edward and Elsie Zaleski to membership.

NORTH ADAMS -- Conte Middle School announced their students who attended the Western District Music Festival on March 20 at the University of Massachusetts Fine and Performing Arts Center. The students were: Michael LaRocca, Michael Milazzo, Stephanie Therrien, Sierra Stansfield, Jamie Haring, Dylan Waterhouse, Heidi Shartrand, and Sarah Ritcher.
NORTH ADAMS -- North Adams Lodge 487, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, has named Maria Regina Segala, daughter of Neil and Susan Segala of 84 Bradley St. as the Elks Student of the Month for April.
Segala has been a ski chaperone for Sullivan Elementary School, 21st Century teen intern in after-school program, taught at the local after-school program, and is a freelance writer for The Family Beat newspaper. She plans to attend Siena College and major in English.
