The second annual Steel Rail half marathon will take place at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Berkshire Mall. The 13.1 mile running race will travel through the towns of Lanesborough, Cheshire and into Adams.
The near sold out field of 750 runners will take part in the scenic trek along the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. The trail will be open to the public, but the hours of 9:30 a.m. to noon will be fairly congested. Parking for the event will be at the JC Penney parking lot at the Berkshire Mall.
The race will finish at the Adams Visitor Center where there will be a variety of food, music and drink. Berkshire Brewing Company will provide Steel Rail Ale to the finishers over the age of 21. Food will be provided by Bounti-fare Restaurant in Adams.
Last year’s race contributed $8,000 to the Department of Conservation and Recreation, specifically to be used for the repair and maintenance of the DCR’s Ashuwillticook Rail Trial.
There is no day of race registration. All information and packet pickup can be found at Berkshire Running Center, 42 Summer St., Pittsfield, (413) 344-4472. Packets for the race will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 16, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 17.
