GREAT BARRINGTON — Moderator and Deputy Fire Chief Edward G. McCormick was treated and released from Bay State Hospital and is resting at home, according to a family spokesperson.

McCormick, 68, was stricken at the annual Turkey Trot Race, held at Bard College at Simon's Rock on Thursday morning..

Members of the Great Barrington Fire Dept., a nurse from Fairview Hospital and race volunteers helped to stabilize him until the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance could arrive. They restarted his heart with a defibrillator and drugs, then transported him to Fairview Hospital where he was stabilized. McCormick was then flown to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he was treated and released later that day, according to his daughter, attorney Kathleen McCormick.

The family expressed it's gratitude to members of the Fire Department, Great Barrington Police Department, Fairview Hospital, the volunteer ambulance squad, race officials and citizens for their efforts in the incident. Kathleen McCormick said in a statement.
