PITTSFIELD — A city man was arrested Monday for allegedly strangling his wife, whose body was found last week inside her Madison Avenue apartment.
Timothy Gill, 38, is accused of killing Halena Irene Gill, 37, whose body was discovered shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the Berkshire District Attorney's office.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court early Tuesday on a charge of murder. He is being held without bail at the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction.
An autopsy was performed over the weekend by Associate Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Sexton, who ruled Gill's death was caused by strangulation.
The investigation is being conducted by Detectives John Gray and John Soules of the Pittsfield Police Department with assistance from Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office and the Crime Scene Services section.
Gill's homicide marks at least the third confirmed violent death in the city this year following the shooting deaths of Ronald Pinel, 25, on July 4, and Keenan S. Pellot Jr., 18, on July 31.
The cause of death has not yet been determined for Hannah Nazareth, 11, whose body was found, along with her father's, on Aug. 3 in their Plunkett Street apartment.
