PITTSFIELD — With candidate interviews scheduled for Thursday, Berkshire Athenaeum trustees are moving toward naming a successor to longtime Library Director Ronald Latham.
Edward M. Reilly, chairman of the board's candidate search subcommittee, said the four finalists for the post will be interviewed Thursday by the group, which expects to make a recommendation to the full board in March.
The day-long session will begin at 9 a.m. at the city library on Wendell Avenue and run until 6 p.m., with a lunch break at 1 p.m. Interviews are scheduled to last two hours each.
"We have some excellent candidates," Reilly said, adding that the finalists offer a range of skills and experience in the field. Two live in Berkshire County, and two others live out of state but in the Northeast.
The four are Scott Hughes, city librarian in Bridgeport, Conn.; Alex Reczkowski, supervisor of technical services at the Berkshire Athenaeum; Christine Pelchat-Miller, public library director in Little Falls, N.J., and Amanda DiGiorgis, library director in Great Barrington.
Reilly said the search committee members "anticipate we are going to make a recommendation" in March, most likely putting forth a single candidate. However, he said follow-up interviews could be scheduled if that is deemed necessary.
The trustees voted Tuesday to offer a mileage reimbursement for those coming to Pittsfield for interviews.
The trustees hope to offer the post to a candidate by April. Latham, 63, who has served as director since 1992, will retire as of June 30.
The posting for the director's job sought candidates with a master's degree in library science and a minimum of five years of "progressively responsible professional library experience, including management and supervisory experience, which demonstrates considerable knowledge in the principles and practices of general administration and supervision, and extensive knowledge of the methods, policies, practices, principles and procedures of professional library work."
The salary was posted as within a range from $64,022 to $72,437, with a starting salary dependent upon experience.
