PITTSFIELD — Police are investigating the death of a Springfield man early Saturday as an apparent homicide.
James Dominguez III, 30, was found near 129 Fenn St. about 1:30 a.m. by officers responding to a 911 call about an unresponsive male, according to a release from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.
When officers arrived on the scene, the parking lot behind Lach's Lounge, they found Dominguez laying on the ground and immediately began administering CPR.
Dominguez was transported to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police did not say what may have caused the man's death, but several bullet holes were visible in a grey Toyota Camry at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Holyoke at a date and time yet to be determined.
Lach's Lounge was the scene of an altercation on Oct. 31 that police believe led to a shooting a short time later near Pleasant and Lincoln streets. The victim in that case was shot in the stomach but survived.
The suspect, Anthony "Dollar" Robertson, 33, was arrested Nov. 12 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. He is being held on $50,000 bail on assault and weapons charges in that case.
Anyone who may have information about Saturday's incident asked to contact the Pittsfield Police Department at 413-448-9700.
No further information was available.
If ruled a homicide, it would be the city's first of the year — and second in as many months.
Timothy Gill allegedly strangled his wife at her Madison Avenue apartment in December. The city also saw homicides in the shooting deaths of Ronald Pinel, 25, on July 4, and Keenan S. Pellot Jr., 18, on July 31 last year.
