GREAT BARRINGTON — A Lewis Avenue man was ordered this week to pay $8,000 in restitution in a larceny case.

John M. Igoe, 48, submitted to sufficient facts for a plea of guilty to one count of larceny over $250.

Southern Berkshire District Court Judge Paul Vrabel ordered him to reimburse his victim and employer, a local property owner. Igoe's case was continued without a finding for a year.

The property owner hired Igoe as a property manager in 2012. In June 2015, an audit revealed more than $9,000 missing from the property owner's business.

When confronted, Igoe, who was entrusted to pay certain bills in his job as manager, admitted the thefts.

The victim told police that he fired Igoe and was willing to let him to pay the money back without going to the authorities. But after a certain amount of time had elapsed and Igoe had not paid, he went to police to prosecute the case.

When contacted by police, Igoe quickly admitted to the the thefts. Court documents did not say how Igoe spent the money. He has paid back about $1,000 since being charged.
