PITTSFIELD >> A city woman is slated to go to trial in May, accused of stealing nearly $35,000 from her father's checking account over a two-year period.

Dawn M. Matthews, 47, faces one count of larceny over $250 from a person over 60 or disabled.

The alleged thefts were first brought to police attention by the alleged victim in January 2014. He told police he attempted to cash a $300 check and was told there were insufficient funds to cover it.

An investigation determined that Matthews withdrew a total of $34,850 from her father's account between January 2012 and December 2013, without his authorization.

When she was interviewed by police in January 2014, Matthews allegedly told officers she had withdrew money from the account because of financial hardships and was attempting to pay it back.

Her Jury of Six trial in Central Berkshire District Court is scheduled to begin on May 16.
