NORTH ADAMS — For the second time in less than three years, Berkshire Nursing Families must find a new home.
The local nonprofit, which provides an array of lactation support services to mothers and families in Central and Northern Berkshire County, will leave its current space at the Blackinton Center on Massachusetts Avenue in the spring.
Berkshire Nursing Families will temporarily be located in the Women, Infant and Children offices at the Northern Berkshire Campus of Berkshire Medical Center.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Berkshire Nursing Families Executive Director Rosalie Girard did not specify any potential new locations, but she stressed that the nonprofit's services would not be impacted by the transition.
Since its creation in 1998, Berkshire Nursing Families has provided free "comprehensive lactation support, peer support groups for teen parents, breastfeeding and childbirth classes, playgroups, all at no charge, to breastfeeding families," according to the press release.
The nonprofit moved to the Blackinton neighborhood location following the closure of North Adams Regional Hospital, where its former headquarters were located.
"The Blackinton Center was never planned as our permanent location," said board Chairwoman Suzy Helme. "We are prepared to find a new home that is more suitable to our needs."
