SHEFFIELD >> Voters on will consider a $9.2 million overall budget, which includes increases in school and municipal spending.
The annual town meeting is slated for 7 p.m. at the Thomas A. Consolati Center at Mount Everett Regional High School.
The overall budget represents about a $167,000 increase over this year's figure. The municipal budget, at $3.03 million, is up $50,000 over this year. The district's assessment to the Southern Berkshire Regional School District is $6.2 million, which is up about $118,000.
But the school budget is fast approaching a doubling of the town's municipal spending, which is alarming to many voters.
In addition, the district inadvertently underassessed Sheffield by $88,000 this fiscal year. Voters will be asked to transfer funds from several accounts to make up that shortfall.
Although the funding transfers will not affect the tax rate, several residents, including the town's Board of Selectmen, are nettled with the district's administration and School Committee.
"I expect," said Town Administrator Rhonda Labombard, "the discussion to settle around the school articles."
