MONTEREY >> Residents on Saturday will consider 30 articles, including a proposed 5.3 percent budget increase and $650,000 for a new fire truck, at the annual town meeting.
The $3.5 million operating budget for fiscal 2017 is up from $3.5 million in the current year.
Voters also will be asked to weigh in on an additional $1.1 million in spending in special articles.
Much of that spending reflects the request for a $650,000 appropriation for a truck to replace the town's 1996 engine, which, upon approval, would be sold or traded in.
A two-thirds vote will be required for approval and ballots for that article will be secret. The town's Finance Committee has endorsed of the measure.
Within the total budget, the town is seeking approval of a $1.46 million school budget, an 8.3 percent increase.
The town will see a $12,000 reduction to the "Persons, Protection and Property," section of the budget, which includes police, fire and inspection expenses.
Article 20, brought by a citizens petition, asks for $40,000 for renovations to the Wilson-McLaughlin House on 468 Main Road.
The Finance Committee does not support the approval of that article.
The annual town meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Monterey Firehouse, 411 Main Road.
At 9:15 a.m., a special town meeting will be held to decide whether to transfer about $21,000 from the Fire Department's training account to its expenses account.
