NEW MARLBOROUGH >> Selectwoman Michele Shalaby has been re-elected to another three-year term with 189 votes in this year's annual town elections.

There were no contested races. A total of 247 of the town's 1.002 registered voters, or 24 percent, participated in the election.

Other winners included Moderator Barry Shapiro; Assessor Marsha Pshenishny; Planning Board member Patricia Handyman; Board of Health member John Bellinger; and Tree Warden William Ruane.

Other winners included Cemetery Commissioner Tammi Palmer; Library Trustee Brian Mikesell and Finance Committee members Robert Miller, Prudence Spaulding and Thomas Stalker. Marilyn Fracasso also won a write-in slot on the Finance Committee. She reportedly is pondering whether to accept the post.

Question 1, which would allow the town to assess residents another $300,000 to cover the town and school budget, was defeated 132-115.

Town officials said they will find savings elsewhere in the budget to cover the school costs
