EGREMONT — The town is expected to soon begin a search for a replacement for Police Chief Brian Shaw, who announced his retirement last month.

Shaw, 56, is an Egremont native who began his career in town before shifting to the Stockbridge Police Department in 1989.

He returned to Egremont in 2013 to replace former longtime chief Reena Bucknell, who had a sometimes stormy relationship with the town.

"It was certainly a challenging time," said Selectwoman Mary Brazie. "But Brian was well-liked by his men and the town."

Shaw will honor his contract withy the town. His last day will be June 30.

Brazie said the town has put together a screening committee, which will launch the search for a new chief. The committee is composed of Shaw, town Personnel Director Bill Tighe, Fire Chief William Turner, Finance Committee member Edward Scarbro and Paul Montgomery.

Montgomery and Scarbro are both retired members of the Great Barrington Police Department.
