BERKSHIRE COUNTY >> The city of Pittsfield and the towns of Great Barrington and Monterey have announced construction project updates for the week of June 20-24.

Pittsfield Streetscape contractor, Maxymillian, will be grading sidewalks for the sidewalk subcontractor from Eagle to Melville streets. A second Maxymillian crew will work on demolishing and rebuilding the basement roof at 338-348 North St.

Construction work is expected to start at 7 a.m.

Around mid-week, Maxymillian will also be installing granite seat walls in front of St. Joseph's Church and the Senior Center.

The curbing and sidewalk subcontractor, Varandas Construction, will complete the majority of their sidewalk work on the west side of North Street early in the week.

New curbing and planters will continue to be installed on the east side of North Street from Eagle to Melville streets.

There is a possibility that late in the week new sidewalks will begin to be installed starting at Eagle Street and moving north on the east side of North Street. Parking and pedestrian traffic may be disrupted by this work but access to storefronts will be maintained.

Berkshire Gas and JS Rae are nearing completion of their gas line work. Once this work is complete, they will patch the remaining trenches. This work may cause some disruptions to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Pedestrian traffic will continue to be guided by pedestrian guardrails.

Vehicular traffic will be down to one lane in both directions. Parking in some areas will be affected by this work.

Vehicles will be guided with signs, cones, and drums allowing traffic to travel safely in the downtown area.

In Great Barrington, Maxymillian will be completing final landscape installations and final cleanup of Main Street. A low protective barrier will be installed after landscaping is completed.

Pedestrians are asked help keep new trees and shrubs healthy by not stepping into or allowing pets to walk in and "visit" the plant beds.

Work hours are between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. With the exception of the completion of daily tasks and additional cleanup of work areas, road conditions will return to normal after 3:30 p.m. each day.

In Monterey, crews will be conducting guard rail installation and line painting throughout the Route 23 Project from the Otis/Monterey line to the Monterey/Great Barrington line. Motorists are advised to use caution.

Monterey will also be conducting a drainage project beginning Monday. The section of road from the Corashire/Blue Hill Road intersection to Route 57 turn-off will be closed. Cars will be detoured, expect minimum delays.

Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
