PITTSFIELD >> A Hinsdale woman facing a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal overdose in February will continue to be held on $25,000 bail.

Kate L. Frissell, 35, along with her husband, Michael J. "Mickey" Litchfield, 43, are both charged in connection with the death of 39-year-old Shawn Filiault in February.

Litchfield is also being held on $25,000 bail.

Prosecutors and Frissell's attorney, Elizabeth Quigley agreed Friday to leave the bail in place, though she has the right to appeal it in Superior Court.

Filiault died from acute fentanyl intoxication, according to a medical examiner.

It's alleged Filiault purchased a brand of heroin known as "American Gangster," from the couple the day of his death and that the heroin was laced with the powerful sedative.

That particular strain of heroin is believed to be responsible for a number of overdoses in the region last fall, including one fatal.

Frissell and Litchfield have both pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter, conspiracy to violate drug laws and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

They are both due back in court on Aug. 11 for pretrial hearings.

Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Dana A. Parsons said she is "very confident" the cases will be submitted to a grand jury for consideration to be moved into Superior Court.
