PITTSFIELD — Pittsfield firefighters saved another life just after midnight Wednesday morning when a car crashed into a tree and caught fire.

The driver was trapped in the burning car, while three passengers were able to escape on their own.

"Luckily the fire department was able to get there quick," said Pittsfield Police Capt. David Granger. "The Pittsfield Fire Department did a really good job."

He said responding firefighters employed two 'jaws of life' tools to get the victim out of the car while other firefighters tried to subdue the blaze.

The call came in at 12:15 a.m. early Wednesday describing a 2005 Pontiac G6 crashed into a tree on Hancock Road.

All four occupants of the car are Pittsfield residents. The driver of the car was Serena Lussier, 18. The passengers were Takiya Stanton, 18; Myajay Eugene, 19; and Anthony Gillian, 19.

They were all transported to Berkshire Medical Center.

Granger said charges are pending with the incident still under investigation by the Accident Reconstruction Unit of the Pittsfield Police Department. Anyone with information on the wreck is asked to call Officer James McIntyre at 413-448-9700, extension 341.
