NORTH ADAMS >> The driver of a dump truck that struck a motorcyclist on Curran Memorial Highway earlier this week pleaded not guilty to traffic violations on Wednesday.

John Williams, Jr., of Troy, N.Y., was driving a Ford dump truck south on Curran Highway Tuesday evening when he missed the right turn into Walmart and decided instead to make a quick left onto Curran Memorial Highway, according to police.

As it attempted to cross two lanes, the dump truck struck a motorcyclist in the center lane, propelling him 70 feet, according to police. Matthew Wilson, 24, of Williamstown, was transported to Berkshire Medical Center with "non-incapacitating injuries," and his 2015 Honda motorcycle was totaled.

There was no damage to the dump truck, according to police.

Williams was arrested and charged with an unsafe lane change, failure to use care while turning, not having his license in possession, and operating with his license suspended in Massachusetts. He pleaded not guilty in Northern Berkshire District Court on Wednesday and was released on personal recognizance.
