NORTH ADAMS — Three North Adams men charged with a vicious physical assault on a fourth man on Friday are expected to appear in Northern Berkshire District Court on Monday for arraignment.

Two of the men were held over the weekend in lieu of $7,540 bail.

The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center with severe injuries to his face and head as well as a fractured ankle, according to police. His condition is unknown.

Karl E. Barber, 50, of 176 Union St., Apt. 31, is charged with one count of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury with a dangerous weapon (a wood board), one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury (a shod foot), and one count of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. He was in police custody as of Sunday.

Richard F. Sifton, 34, of 176 Union St., Apt. 26, is charged with one count of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury with a dangerous weapon (a wood board), one count of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury with a dangerous weapon (a shod foot), and one count of assault and battery causing serious injury. He too was in police custody as of Sunday.

Daniel P. Chenail, 53, of 176 Union St., Apt. 34, is charged with one count of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury with a dangerous weapon (a pipe). Initially, Chenail was held in lieu of $7,540 but was released after further investigation, police said. The charge against him has not been dropped at this time, police said.

Police were called to 176 Union St., a large apartment building, at 5:56 p.m. by the victim, who reported the attack, according to police.
